HD-204 Hard Disc Controller
The HD-204 and HD-212 adapt the Adtec Soloist and Adtec Mirage MPEG players to accept pushbutton selection of video files stored on hard disc. These units are designed expressly for the public's ease of use in museum exhibits, visitor centers, retail point-of-purchase displays, and information kiosks. The units offer ease of installation, as well as versatility.

Remote pushbuttons, mounted on the exhibit or display, instruct the HD-204 or HD-212 to play a particular video file from the Soloist or Mirage. The remote pushbuttons may be illuminated to give visitors an indication of which video clip is playing. For test and setup purposes, the front panels also have illuminated pushbuttons which are wired in parallel with the remote buttons. Connections to the remote pushbuttons are made via RJ-11 modular telephone connectors.

A number of features add to the controllers' flexibility. One is the "Attract" mode which permits an additional piece of video to play continuously until one of the remote pushbuttons is pressed. This "Attract" piece is in addition to the four selections of the HD-204 or the 12 selections of the HD-212 and is located in the Main Menu ("MM") on the Soloist and Mirage players. The material in the "Attract" mode can be used to display instructions or to otherwise invite visitor participation.

Another important feature is the choice of setting the pushbuttons in either "lock out" or "hot" mode. In "lock out" mode, the segment playing must finish before another segment will play. In "hot" mode, pushing a button will interrupt what is playing with a new selection.

Connection to the Soloist or Mirage are made with the supplied RS-232 cable. Setting of options, such as which video file is called up by each button, is made by connecting the HD-204 or HD-212 to a PC running any standard terminal program such as Hyperterm which comes with Windows.
