"Corridos sin Fronteras: A New World Ballad Tradition" focuses on the history and development of the corrido (ballad). It is the resultof a collaboration between the Chicano Studies Research Center of UCLA, The Smithsonian Center for Latino Initatives, and SITES (Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service). Daniel Meijer of Danco Electric (Silver Springs MD) was called upon to provide the technology that allows visitors to embark on a musical journey by way of the stories sung in Mexican and U.S. communites. The exhibition aims to assist in the understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the "corrido" tradition as an important expression of community life. To invoke the community aspect, a replica of an old juke box was constructed. Museum Technology X-6000 Illuminated Pushbuttons, mounted on the front, provide for visitor interaction. These buttons activate a Museum Technology CD audio playback system to feed the jukebox speakers.
